Women's 2022 World Championship Finals Live Broadcast





You're invited to join us in watching the final of the World Backgammon Internet Federation Online World Women's Championship taking place this Saturday October 29 at 1 pm Eastern/19:00 CET featuring Maral Tahori (Iran) and Maya Peycheva (Bulgaria).

The final of the WBIF World Women’s Champtionship between Maral Tahori (Iran) and Maya Peycheva (Bulgaria) will be played on Heroes.BackgammonStudio.com WBIF External Tournament room on Saturday October 29 at 19:00 CET (1 pm Eastern US). Maral and Maya emerged with the best win-loss records of 110 women entering the event.


The event was held from May to October 2022. It began with five-round regional qualifiers in Europe/Africa (64 entrants), the Americas (30 entrants), and Asia/Australia (16 entrants). Thirty-six women qualified in the regional tournaments to compete in the eight-round Final WBIF World Women’s Championship. The winner after 13 arduous rounds of top-level competition will be decided by the match.


Women in Backgammon is providing 500 Euros in prize money to the winner.

Grandmaster Steve Sax and Phil Simborg, principal of the Backgammon Learning Center, will be commentators on the Zoom session featuring the match.

Maral Tahori has a 7-0 win-loss record in the Final rounds with a performance rating of 7.27. Along the way she defeated Annalisa Agosti, the winner of the Ladies Event at the Backgammon World Championship in Monaco in July 2022. She was born in Tehran and has played seriously for five years. She attributes her performance to hours of practice and study. In addition to backgammon she enjoys hiking, table tennis, and billiards. Professionally she works as a real estate agent. Her goal is to travel to top-level backgammon tournaments and try to spread positive energy to the people of the world.

Maya Peycheva competed in the 2021 BMAB-Middle East #6 event in Northern Cyprus, placing 7th with a PR of 4.29, the best of any woman in the BMAB rating system. She started playing backgammon in May 1994 and within two months won the Bulgarian Backgammon Tournament for Women in a field of 108 players. She has earned trophy cups in more than 25 tournaments including Nova Goritsa in 2002, Super Jackpot in Merit Open in Cyprus, the Romanian tournament in Slanic Moldova.
