Carol Joy Cole, the widely acknowledged Queen of Backgammon and the tournament director of the Michigan Summer Championship, won the Lady Liberty Cup at the New York Metropolitan Backgammon Championship. The event, sponsored by Women in Backgammon, drew 32 entries! The NY Metro tournament attracted over 230 players in the Main events, making this popular tournament a must-attend attraction on the American Backgammon Tour.
Christina Elias from Minnesota was the finalist in the Lady Liberty Cup. Carol received a prize Women in Backgammon board and $1000 in added money donated by Women in Backgammon while Christina received cash from the prize pool of entry fees. Carol also finished 3rd/4th in the Seniors event.
Marianne Bowen (VA) has put the recording equipment she received as a prize from Women in Backgammon at the 2022 Cherry Blossom to good use. She has been systematically recording and analyzing her matches from tournament play. She won the Doubles event at the New York Metro with playing partner and grandmaster Marty Storer.
Mark your calendar for the upcoming Cherry Blossom Backgammon Championship to be held at the Hyatt Regency at Dulles in the Washington DC area April 19-23. Women in Backgammon will be sponsoring the Women in Backgammon Cherry Blossom Cup with $500 in added money. For the first time, with WIB sponsorship, all matches in the event will be recorded and transcribed so that all women entering the event will have an opportunity to learn from their experience.
