About the Event

These events are an amazing opportunity to see two of the best players in action. And, fun too!

Maya Peycheva competed in the 2021 BMAB-Middle East #6 event in Northern Cyprus, placing 7th with a PR of 4.29, the highest of any woman in the BMAB rating system. She started playing backgammon in May 1994 and within two months won the Bulgarian Backgammon Tournament for Women in a field of 108 players. She has earned trophy cups in more than 25 tournaments including Nova Goritsa in 2002, Super Jackpot in Merit Open in Cyprus, the Romanian tournament in Slanic Moldova, and numerous times has been the Bulgarian Backgammon Champion. She finished first in the 2013 6th EBGT Cyprus Open and first in the 2007 London Open Last Chance. A highlight of her backgammon competition was playing and winning a match against Paul Magriel in the Masters division of the Nova Goritsa Backgammon Championship in 1995. She is on the Tournament Committee of the World Backgammon Internet Federation. Outside of backgammon, she was the Bulgarian Women’s Volleyball Champion in 1994. She has degrees in Sports Management.

David Presser from Israel won the 8th Merit Open in Kyrenia, North Cyprus in 2021 and was second in the Istanbul Open in 2022. He is a Vice President of the Backgammon Masters Awarding Body (BMAB) where he is ranked as a grandmaster Class 3. David was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel, in 1980, where he resides today. As with many backgammon players, he started out playing chess and became a National Master as a high school student. He came to the U.S. where he earned a Masters of Business Administration at Northwestern University in the Chicago area. He helped start the first Backgammon Masters Awarding Body (BMAB) events in the U.S. and has remained active directing BMAB events, most recently the BMAB – Middle East #6 event in North Cyprus preceding the Merit Open. David has many major victories in the US including the prestigious Chicago Bar Point Club Championship in 2013 and 2015, 2014 Minnesota Masters Jackpot, and 2014 NY Metro Limited Jackpot.
